You’re Over-Explaining Yourself ~ Here’s Why It Feels So Draining

You don’t feel drained because you talk too much.

You feel drained because you keep trying to be understood
by people who were never really listening.

🌙 Where the exhaustion actually comes from

It’s not just the conversation.

It’s everything happening underneath it.

Replaying what you said.
Wondering if you explained it clearly enough.
Trying to soften your words so they land better.

You add more context.
You explain it again.
You try a different way.

And somehow…
it still doesn’t feel like enough.

✨ Why this pattern starts

At some point, you learned that being understood
was something you had to earn.

Maybe you were dismissed.
Maybe you were misunderstood.
Maybe your feelings were questioned.

So you adapted.

You explained more.
You justified more.
You made yourself easier to understand.

Not because you were wrong—
but because you were trying to be heard.

🧠 What it turns into

Now it shows up everywhere.

You over-explain:

  • your emotions
  • your boundaries
  • your decisions
  • even your silence

And after all of it…

You’re left feeling drained instead of understood.

⚠️ The truth that changes everything

People who are meant to understand you…

don’t need that much explanation.

They don’t need you to:

  • over-prove
  • over-justify
  • over-communicate

They meet you where you are.

And when they don’t…

no amount of explaining will fix that.

🌿 What happens when you stop

At first, it feels uncomfortable.

You’ll want to:
explain again
add more
clarify your tone

But if you pause instead…

something shifts.

You start to feel less pressure.
Less urgency to be understood.
Less need to perform your emotions.

And in that space…

you find a kind of peace
you didn’t realize you were missing

🕯️ Small ways I come back to myself

When I catch myself over-explaining, I come back to small grounding moments instead of trying to say more.

🌙 Final thought

You don’t need to explain yourself into being understood.

The right people don’t require that much effort.

And the more you stop over-explaining…

the more you come back to yourself.
